“Israel” reopens Erez crossing after 7 months; Jordan’s aid trucks first to enter

The Israeli Occupation has opened the sole terminal leading into north Gaza -Erez Border Crossing- for the first time since the start of its aggression against on Oct. 7, 2023 after succumbing to worldwide pressures demanding that more aid enters the besieged and famished Strip - Jordanian aid trucks were the first go through the crossing.

The crossing was opened by the “Israeli” government on the day of a visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and called for more humanitarian aid deliveries into the territory - in a visit that aims to push towards a ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, according to the US State Department.

The Jordanian aid convoy comprises 31 trucks, marking the establishment of a new entry point for Jordanian aid into Gaza in addition to constant airdrops carried out jointly with partner countries.

Additionally, 48 Jordanian aid trucks entered through the Kerem Shalom crossing, bringing the total number of trucks in today's convoy to 79.

The convoy includes much-needed essential supplies for the residents of Gaza like food parcels and baby formula - and will be distributed to north Gaza’s residents through local partner associations and organizations.

Dr. Hussein Al-Shibli, Secretary General of the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) which took part in putting together the aid convoy, emphasized Jordan's ongoing commitment to increasing aid to Gaza due to the region's dire need.

He stated, "Following royal directives and in alignment with Jordan's humanitarian stance, we aim to reach as many people in Gaza as possible, opening new avenues for aid delivery."

Shibli also revealed that the total number of aid deliveries to Gaza has reached a significant milestone, with 1,242 land trucks, 57 planes via Al-Arish, and 90 Jordanian and 225 international landings, demonstrating a concerted effort to provide assistance to the besieged Strip.
